Bohemian Woman // Jenelle Witty of Inspiring Wit

Today we take you to Perth, Western Australia to join the adventures of Jenelle Witty, the beauty and brains behind the blog Inspiring Wit. We delved into her day-to-day life, what inspires her personal style and found what she just can’t live without (hint: it’s delicious!).

Q // How would you introduce yourself?
A // As an eternal wanderlust who loves beautiful textiles and dreams of living in Paris.

Q // What is a day in the life of Jenelle Witty like?
A // There is no day that is the same but I either work from home or our studio. I check Instagram and emails first thing, then prioritise healthy food and skincare. It will depend if I have to prep to shoot anything that day as to wether I do makeup or just jump straight into my work. If I am working on copy or editing photos and sending emails I am at my desk with music going all day. If I have shoots, I am generally trying to remember to prep all of the shoes, accessories and things I need, then plan locations. It’s important to me that it all comes together to tell an inspiring story. I like to practice yoga everyday, I might go for a run and do an extra workout and will end up back on Instagram in the early evening while unwinding with something like Gilmore Girls in the background.

Q // Can you tell us a little bit about your fashion blog, Inspiring Wit?
A // It is all about style, travel, beauty and a bit of lifestyle. I have the same approach across everything though, that it is inspiring but approachable. The aim is to inspire people to live stylishly, feel empowered and above all be happy. Life is short, eat the croissant!

Q // How would you describe your style?
A // Music and travel are my biggest inspirations, I try to incorporate a bit of rock-n-roll cool into every outfit and combine comfortable street pieces with covetable accessories. I wish I lived in Paris, so I am always channelling the nonchalant attitudes of the essential French girl style. My style is laid back but elevated.

Q // Where did your love of fashion first begin?
A // Well, I used to play dress ups all the time, my Nanna was very stylish and my Mum was a dressmaker, so I could dream up an outfit and beg until she made it for me. Later I learned to sew and make my own, went on to study costume design and while working as a designer began blogging my outfits which has lead me to where I am now. I had this mix of elegant style influences from my Nanna and this alternative and bohemian style from my Mum who made the most incredible things in the 70s. Plus I was inspired by incredible women taking the lead in rock bands I listened to!

Q // What would you describe as your perfect outfit?
A // A mini classic printed wrap dress or silk slip dress, leather moto jacket, my Chloe boots and tortoise shell sunglasses. Or mom jeans and a button down shirt with espadrilles and a blazer.

Q // Who is your greatest style icon?
A // There have been so many over the years but I go back to: Jane Birkin, Erin Wasson, Katherine Hepburn, Lauren Hutton, Lucy Williams (of the blog Fashion Me Now), Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Caroline de Maigret, Daria Werbowy, Giorgia Tordini, Emanuelle Alt, Charlotte Rampling, Vanessa Paradis, and Clemence Posey.

Q // Do you prefer street style or evening style?
A // Street style, I guess because I love to feel comfortable but I try to elevate the looks, so they have an edge to them. My evening style doesn’t tend to change much. I prefer to look and feel underdone than overdone when I am out at events. It may not always impress some people- I will rock up to an event in jeans, a tee and a blazer but I’ll add red lipstick or low heels. But I prefer to feel good and not be tugging at an uncomfortable tight dress or losing my footing in super high heels.

Q // What is one thing you can’t live without?
A // Haha I automatically think of croissants.
