ECO FABRICS: WHY WE’RE USING THESE SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS TO PRODUCE OUR CLOTHING

Bohemian Traders celebrates the world we live in through bold prints, and artisan pieces threaded through every collection. Our brand was born from a background in fine arts and a deep appreciation for the beauty of the Australian coast. We blend vibrant colours and classic silhouettes with fashion-forward details to create pieces that are timeless.

At the core of our brand ethos is sustainability. We’re committed to minimising our impact on the environment and ensuring that every person and creature in our supply chain is treated with dignity and respect. This commitment is evident in every aspect of our business, from our choice of materials to our responsible factories.

We work with a small and unique chain of artisans and craftspersons who hand-make each piece using traditional techniques. This approach ensures that every item is crafted with care and attention to detail, resulting in garments that are not only beautiful but also durable and long-lasting.

We also prioritise the use of natural, renewable and certified organic materials when designing our Sustainable collection. All our fabrics are carefully selected to have the lowest impact on our global environment.

1. TENCEL

Bohemian Traders Eco Fabrics

At Bohemian Traders, we have made a conscious decision to use Tencel to produce our clothing. We’re committed to reducing our carbon footprint and producing eco-friendly products, and Tencel aligns with our values.

Tencel is a revolutionary fabric that is made from the pulp of eucalyptus trees, which are grown sustainably and require far less water than traditional cotton. Unlike other fabrics, Tencel is produced using a closed-loop system, which means that all of the solvents used in the manufacturing process are recovered and reused, creating a much more efficient and eco-friendly production process.

Tencel is also biodegradable, meaning that it’ll break down naturally when it’s no longer needed. This is in stark contrast to many other materials used in fashion, which can take hundreds or even thousands of years to decompose and can cause significant environmental damage in the meantime.

2. LINEN

Sustainable fabrics

Linen is a highly eco-friendly fabric. It’s made from the flax plant, which requires far less water and fewer pesticides and fertilisers to grow than cotton.

Another significant advantage of linen is its durability. It’s a strong fabric that can withstand a lot of wear and tear, meaning that garments made from linen will last longer than those made from other materials. This not only makes linen a more sustainable choice, but it also means that customers will get more use out of their clothing, ultimately reducing waste.

Linen is also an excellent choice for warm-weather clothing. The fabric is highly breathable, meaning that it allows air to circulate around the body, keeping the wearer cool and comfortable. Additionally, linen has excellent moisture-absorbing properties, which makes it perfect for hot and humid climates.

3. COTTON VOILE

Bohemian Traders Eco Fabrics

Cotton voile is a versatile and sustainable fabric that is gaining popularity among fashion enthusiasts and eco-conscious consumers alike. Made from pure cotton, this lightweight and breathable fabric has a unique texture and drape that makes it ideal for summer dresses, blouses, and curtains.

Cotton voile also has a low impact on the environment. Unlike other cotton fabrics that require large amounts of water and chemicals to produce, cotton voile is crafted from digitally printed fabric. This process virtually eliminates the consumption of water and the discharge of noxious effluents, offering a positive environmental impact.

4. RAYON

Bohemian Traders Eco Fabrics

Rayon is a versatile fabric that has many advantages when it comes to sustainability, comfort, and style.

Firstly, rayon is a sustainable fabric made from natural materials such as wood pulp, bamboo, and cotton linters. It’s a biodegradable material that breaks down naturally in the environment.

Rayon is also an incredibly soft and comfortable fabric. It has a smooth, silky texture that drapes beautifully, making it an ideal choice for clothing such as dresses, skirts, and blouses. Also, it can be dyed in a wide range of colours and printed with various patterns, which means that it can be used to create a variety of different clothing styles.

Rayon can be made into anything from casual everyday wear to more formal and elegant outfits.

5. RECYCLED POLYESTER

Bohemian Traders Eco Fabrics

We’ve chosen to use recycled polyester as one of our fabrics of choice for producing clothing. Here are some of the reasons why we believe recycled polyester is a sustainable and responsible choice for clothing production.

Firstly, recycled polyester is an eco-friendly alternative to traditional polyester. It’s made from post-consumer waste, such as plastic bottles, which are collected and processed into polyester fibres. By using recycled materials, we’re reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfills and the ocean.

Recycled polyester production also requires less energy, water, and resources, which means that it has a smaller carbon footprint.

Another significant advantage of recycled polyester is its durability. Garments made from recycled polyester are strong and long-lasting, which means that they can be worn for many years without losing their shape or colour. Recycled polyester is also versatile, moisture-wicking, quick-drying, and breathable, making it a popular choice for activewear and outdoor clothing.
